"If it is through the Spirit of God that I cast devils out then know that the kingdom of God has overtaken you"
Deliverance through Litany Prayers is a very powerful way for us to be set free from temptations and spiritual strongholds. The Sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist are the best forms of deliverance because they place us under the power of Jesus’ Kingdom. Unfortunately many people are not able to receive these Sacraments. It is helpful to know how to pray for them by praying God’s Word and Litanies.
Litany prayer titles prepare the way by cleansing our wounded spirit that is vulnerable to temptations. They also heal our wounds so we are no longer bound by spiritual strongholds over our thoughts and emotions.
When we ask Jesus to help us in our pain and fear we open the door to His love and blessings. These Litany titles will help us open the door, set us free from the fear and heal our wounded spirit.
The word 'deliverance' comes from the Lord's Prayer:
"Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from all evil" (Matt: 6-7-13)
PREVENTION, DEFINITION and UNDERSTANDING
The World, the Flesh and the Devil
The main way we can be affected by evil spirits as God's children is through temptations that move us away from God towards evil. Jesus teaches us in the ‘Our Father Prayer’ to pray against evil.
Each of these evils are dealt with through different gifts of salvation.
- We deal with the world with the teaching authority and pastoral care of the Church in Scripture and Tradition.
- We deal with the flesh through the gifts of grace, the Sacraments and the continual work of personal conversion.
- We deal with the evil influence of the devil through God's Word and protection of us in the prayer for deliverance.
Through these prayer gifts God protects us with His love: gifts that incorporate the death and resurrection of His Son, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Church and the Sacraments.
The world is usually dealt with by listening and accepting the Word of God. The world includes those who are promoting another gospel that is opposed to the Good News from God. Those who promote violence in the world we live in are promoting a message in words and action opposed to God's message to love your neighbours by doing good and avoiding evil.
The flesh is a general term that covers all the ways we can be drawn into the world of evil by our personal inordinate passions given in to by decisions and omissions and by the company we keep. The description of ‘the flesh’ is found in St. Paul where he speaks of two different groups of people, those who are guided by the Holy Spirit in all that they say, think and do and those who leave God out of their lives and their decisions.
The devil refers first to the leader of the fallen angels the serpent, the devil or Satan, and the other fallen angels, and those who work with them to worship evil and bring evil and harm to God's children. Many of the people involved in these occult groups are often deceived by the devil about the evil and the harm they do and the dangerous place they are in. The main purpose of these groups is to frustrate God's saving love for all of His people including all of His children even those involved in occult groups.
Jesus said that we will know God's reign has come into the world when we see the devil's power weakening and failing. He also made the promise to His people that evil will not win over His children. They will be protected by God's Divine power and the power of the death of Jesus on the Cross with the protective cover of His Precious Blood and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
"The God of peace will soon crush Satan beneath your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you"
The Bible Story: What Does the Bible Teach Us about Deliverance?
St. Paul tells us our life long battle is not with human beings but with those evil spirits who originated the evil in the world (Ephesians 6:3).
